Skill Up video- Austin played 2 hours of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
We've all been quite skeptical about the upcoming Avatar game. So far, Ubisoft has been releasing their marketing material, and everything seemed to point out that the gameplay loop was way too similar to the Far Cry formula. Everybody thought that the game would be just an uninspired version of Ubisoft's once greatest franchise. So imagine my surprise when they released the preview material...
Yes, it's still pretty much Far Cry in Pandora, but that does not mean that the game can't innovate and become it's own thing. The preview videos and critics coverage all had a similar tone of genuine surprise and newfound interest. The new setting in a completely different world seemed a welcome refreshment to the Ubisoft gameplay loop.
The art direction also received a lot of praise. Pandora really looked like a world worth exploring, despite being 99% vegetation. The world's verticality and overall attention to detail really impressed.
I lost my interest in the Far Cry series after the fourth entry, the similarity between subsequent titles really stood out to me. But maybe I would be willing to do a review of this one, as I am quite a fan of James Cameron's creation.
