Activision has just released their new Call of Duty title and early reviews are brutal. IGN gave it a score of 4 and Gamespot deemed it worthy of a 5—the score they assign to "mediocre" titles.. Critics usually go easy on COD, but not this time, the early campaign reviews are painting a really bad picture for the new entry, which makes us wonder, how will the reception look like when the masses get their hands on the game?
There were speculations that the game was planned as a DLC for Modern Warfare 2, but fans were still optimistic that the title would have enough content to deserve the full price tag. Unfortunately, we were all let down by Activision. The single player campaign packs a miserable 4 hours campaign, with lots of reused assets and maps from COD:Warzone, the disappointing main villain is just the cherry on top. Unsurprisingly, the allegations that the game was originally a DLC was confirmed by a PSN bug that Activision forgot to fix before launch, which just added salt to the injury.
COD has been stagnant for a few years now, mostly due to the yearly release schedule. Hopefully, players will skip this year entry and force Activision to make a change. Microsoft has also just purchased Activision Blizzard and they are surelly paying close attention to this entire situation.
