  A Twitter user recently shared an image of the upcoming PS5 Slim packaging. Within it, Sony is stating that the disc drive requires internet connection for setup, which implies that the console disk version will not work without a stable connection to Playstation servers. That's a huge step back in terms of user's right to repair as well as game preservation.

  Fans are already criticizing and pressuring Sony to remove this requirement. Some are stating that the company is taking this approach to avoid third party products being attached to the new PS5 console.

  Regrettably, Playstation does not have a good track record in terms of video game preservation. Most PS2 and PS3 games are still unplayable on modern hardware, with users being forced to pay for the most expensive PSNow tier to have access to a humble library of titles via streaming.
